The Client:

Kent FA

Description

In one of football’s most emotionally charged and high-pressure roles, CMP partnered with Kent FA to support match officials facing escalating levels of dissent, confrontation, and emotional strain on the pitch. With referees reporting increased burnout, isolation, and a lack of practical tools for managing conflict, our work focused on improving both game management and long-term referee retention.

Together, we designed a conflict resolution training programme tailored specifically to the unique demands of officiating. By combining CMP’s expertise in behavioural psychology and de-escalation with Kent FA’s deep understanding of matchday pressures, we created a highly engaging, scenario-led workshop that gave referees the tools to remain composed, confident, and in control.

The sessions didn’t just deliver skills – they sparked vital peer connections. Referees shared real experiences and advice in a safe, inclusive space that fostered community, built resilience, and gave participants a renewed sense of support on and off the pitch.
